Glass Hints at "Other Options" is Tax Fails
Doug Tucker of the AP is reporting that the Royals will explore "other options" if the sales is voted down in April. Glass was quoted as saying:
I'm not exploring any other options because I'm assuming that this is the right thing to do, what we're going to go do," Glass said. "But should (the tax) fail, then we'll have to see what the other options are."
This is the first time that David Glass has even hinted at the chance of the Royals leaving KC. He always denied there was any thought of such a move. Most likely this is a scare tactic to convince voters to vote in favor of the plan. The Chiefs and Royals recently came to agreement with the county on a plan to renovate the stadiums. Now its up the voters to vote it in. This will not be an easy task. There is always a bloc of people who routinely vote against any kind of tax (some say its about 30% of the people in this county). Others dont mind paying some taxes but really have a hard time funding hundreds of millions for billionaires and millionaires. And then there are people who think the Royals should move downtown into a new stadium instead of wasting money renovating. That is what I wish they would do but the Royals seem unable to have a vision and would rather be the Chiefs lackeys.
This article follows another story that was a bit misleading by David Glass. Evidently, Glass hinted at the Royals Forecast Luncheon that the Royals were promised an All-Star game if the tax passed. That is not the case according to the Commissioner, Bud Selig:
“I don’t have any promises out to anybody,” Selig told The Star late Friday from Arizona. “I’m trying to help teams. I’m trying to do the best I can. A lot of cities are vying for All-Star Games, and I’m not going to give preference to one city right now.”
One word of warning for the Powers That Be at Arrowhead and the K. The public is as not stupid as you think they are. Threats and hints of moving could backfire on you . If you really want to see this thing pass then maybe you should open your wallet and pay more than the paltry 100 million between the two teams.
